Foreign price
USD 35 per adult, with a minimum of two paying guests and a minimum booking total of USD 70. Your boat is exclusive to your party. Pay online through Genie’s hosted checkout from your private booking page when an amount is due. The server verifies a matching live confirmation before recording payment. Booking confirmation does not collect a payment; your payment status is tracked separately.
A route with time to observe
Check in 15 minutes before the confirmed departure. After boarding, travel towards the agreed observation areas and continue along suitable wetland edges, pausing where conditions allow a closer look. The route gives observation priority over a sequence of cultural stops. Return to the departure jetty after the river session. Any cinnamon visit must appear in your selected itinerary; it is not automatically part of every birdwatching departure.
Watch for birds such as kingfishers, herons and egrets along the waterways. Cormorants are also recorded in the wetland. Your guide can help you look for activity and identify what is visible; the species you see will depend on your route and the day.

Guiding equipment and preparation
Check the commentary language and bird-guiding arrangements shown for your selected departure. Bring your own binoculars if you would like to use them. Binoculars are not included in the base fare. A camera, water, sun protection and a hat are useful. Keep voices low during observation pauses and allow the boat operator to choose a suitable viewing position.
Temple landings, fish-spa participation, turtle visits, meals, drinks and hotel transfers are outside the base route unless expressly added to your offer. We do not guarantee a particular bird, a number of sightings, visible sunrise or flowering trees. Photographs show the setting and possible observations, rather than a checklist promised for your date.
Optional pickup and drop off
Tuk-tuk and car options cover Ahungalla, Kosgoda, Induruwa, Bentota, Beruwala, Ambalangoda, Hikkaduwa and Akurala. Request pickup, drop-off or both separately. Local visitor transfers are quoted; foreign visitor options have separate vehicle charges. Hotel travel is additional to your time on the river, so check the collection arrangements for an early departure.

Is this the same route as the Private safari?
This tour allows longer for bird observation and follows suitable areas on the day. Choose the Private safari if the Kothduwa Temple landing and cultural island stops are your main interest.
Can I request a particular bird or photograph?
Tell us your interests when booking so they can be considered in the route planning. Wild birds move freely, and we cannot promise that a particular species or photographic opportunity will appear.
Can children take part?
Enter children’s ages when booking. Per-person safari fares charge ages 12+ at the adult rate, ages 5–11 at 50%, and children under 5 free; Local whole-boat fares stay unchanged. Contact us about suitable life-jacket fit and the suitability of a longer observation trip. Every child and infant counts towards the assigned boat’s eight- or nine-passenger limit.
Where does the birdwatching trip finish?
The river trip returns to the departure jetty named in your booking. If you need a hotel return journey, select drop-off separately or include it in your transport request.
How do payment and confirmation work?
Eligible fixed-price bookings are confirmed automatically when you submit your chosen future date and start time. No inventory check or staff approval is required. Payment is tracked separately and starts as unpaid. Bank payments remain under review until credited funds are checked. Read the applicable cancellation and weather terms before paying.
